I like emails to be personal and detailed. So like when I know it is addressed to me and not a whole group of coaches. I can tell this by how they describe what they know about Washington. I like when they are up on what our team is doing. It just shows sincere interest and that they are smart and interested enough to look things up. That always impresses me.
I also like when they tell me about themselves beyond their scores. I like to learn about what they think about their specific performances, what they do with their family and friends, what things they are passionate about, etc. Obviously, that stuff gets easier and better as things get further along.
In the first emails I would recommend making sure it is clear that you know something about the coaches and schools you are writing.
What do you look for in an email from recruits?
